About the project

Far From the Western Front was a project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and hosted at the Community Hub Haringey, in partnership with Collage Arts, the Gurkha Veteran Foundation and the Pak Cultural Society.

Volunteers from across London worked together to reveal and explore the untold stories of the 1.5 million South Asians who served in the First World War in campaigns from Mesopotamia to East Africa.

visited national archives and museums across the UK;

made digital stories with Digitales;

and created an exhibition which showed for free in venues around the UK from November 2016 – October 2017.
